What is NMN?

NMN (β-nicotinamide mononucleotide) is a substance belonging to the vitamin B3 group, found in the cells of all living organisms.
It was discovered in 2011 by Prof. Shin-ichiro Imai (Department of Developmental Biology and Medicine, Washington University School of Medicine). Studies have shown significant effects in the treatment of diabetes, as well as beneficial effects on Alzheimer's disease and heart failure.
Research has shown that as the body ages, its ability to synthesize the coenzyme NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) decreases, which weakens various body functions.
NMN is a precursor to NAD; once in the body, it is converted to NAD by enzymes and provides a strong anti-aging effect.
It is believed that this effect occurs not only physiologically throughout the body, but also on the condition of the skin.
Studies show that NAD activates Sirtuin genes, which inhibit aging – this is the main mechanism that provides anti-aging effects.

NMN activates the longevity gene Sirtuin

In 2000, Prof. Leonard Guarente (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA) discovered the Sirtuin / SIRT1 gene.
This is a gene found in most living organisms, the activation of which slows down aging and extends lifespan.
Recent studies have shown that aging is largely caused by reactive oxygen species produced in mitochondria. As we age, this oxygen begins to "leak" out of mitochondria, aging all systems in the body.
It is NMN that turns on the sirtuin (longevity) gene. When it is active, enzymes neutralize harmful reactive oxygen species in mitochondria and stop aging.
In addition, NMN also activates telomeres, the “protective caps” of chromosomes. They shorten during each cell division. At birth, there are ~15,000 of them, and by the age of 35, there are only half of them. When telomeres become too short (<6,000), cells stop reproducing.
