Where are the magnets, and what are they designed to do?

PLUS tops contain 10 permanent ferrite magnets along the inner edges of the shoulder blades. The trousers and shorts contain 6 magnets around the sacrum. Each magnet is rated at 180 mT. The magnets follow the manufacturer's ANSPO™ arrangement, with alternating north and south poles.

According to the manufacturer, this design helps improve blood circulation in the area where the garment is worn and relieve muscle stiffness. PLUS models are certified as medical devices in Japan. This status applies to the Japanese market and does not, by itself, establish effectiveness for sleep disorders.

Switch-Tex™: texture designed for comfort

The raised texture on the inside of the fabric.

The inner surface of Switch-Tex™ has a raised texture that gently brushes against your skin as you move. The manufacturer designed it to create a pleasant feel and a sense of relaxation.

The main fabric of PLUS tops is 96% polyester and 4% polyurethane. This stretchy material is paired with a relaxed silhouette and side panels that allow room to move. The manufacturer also specifies moisture-absorbing and quick-drying properties.

What does the research say about magnetic garments and sleep?

A randomised, double-blind crossover study published in Sensors in 2024 involved 15 trained male long-distance runners. After a 30 km run, they slept wearing either RESNO tops and full-length trousers with 180 mT magnets or otherwise identical garments without magnetic effects.

What did the researchers observe?
When participants wore the magnetic garments, a wrist-worn device recorded a longer duration of deep sleep. Participants reported better perceived recovery, while heart rate variability measures indicated greater parasympathetic nervous system activity.

What are the limits of these findings?
The study was small, short-term and conducted with a specific group of athletes. Sleep was assessed using a wrist-worn device. The results do not guarantee the same effects for everyone or establish that the garments treat insomnia. They also do not establish the same effects when wearing a single garment or a different model.
